World Book Day & Evacuee Day!
This year, World Book Day 2019 will take place on Thursday 7th March 2019. Year 6 have been working incredibly hard learning about ‘World Wars’. We are planning to hold an ‘Evacuee Day’ on World Book day – merging our topic with celebrating books and reading for pleasure!
To add to the excitement, we would like children to come in costume, dressed either as evacuee children from World War 2 or even as adults from the 1940s (civilians not soldiers). The day will consist of stories, role plays and discussions based around a range of books based on wars.
Please be assured that there is no need for costumes to be in anyway expensive. School uniforms and clothes that the children have anyway can easily be worn for the day with slight adaptation. Charity shops are a great source of items that could create fantastic costumes! There are a few sample ideas below to get you started, but I am sure your imaginations will already be fired! Please send children to school dressed in their evacuee costume in the morning (Thursday 7th March 2019).
In addition, please send children in with an old, empty shoebox- one of the activities on the day will involve making gas mask boxes!
Please speak to a member of the Year 6 team if you have any concerns. Thank you for your incredible support in making your children’s learning so much fun!
