We are delighted to welcome a very special delivery to our school—our own hatching chicks! This exciting experience gives pupils the chance to see first hand how chicks hatch and begin to grow during their first few days of life. Several chicks have already started to hatch, and you can watch the first videos of their progress below. We will continue to upload video updates so families can follow their development each day. We’ll also be launching a fun competition very soon to name the chicks—details will be shared shortly!
Soon enough, there was a crack and then another and then suddenly – we had our first chick!
Then, unexpectedly, there were three! The children (and staff) are very excited!
Day 2
Here are video updates for day 2! All the eggs have hatched now and we have 7 beautiful chicks getting used to their new home!
Every so often, the chicks go under this special device that keeps them warm!
Day 3 & 4
The Chicks spent the weekend with Mrs Graham. Mrs Graham reports that they were very well-behaved house guests!
Day 5
Here are photos and a video update for day 5! The chicks are becoming more confident in exploring their temporary home. If you look closely, you can see their feathers becoming more defined on their wings.
Day 6
Here are photos and a video update for day 6. The chicks started the day off by being a bit mischievous – leaving their home and finding interesting places to explore around school. They found Mrs Solla's office, checked Mrs Morley's desk was tidy and quite enjoyed spending time in the staffroom.
