Mental Health Awareness Day
Along with the activities ‘How I Will Be Fantastic Today’ and ‘What Makes Me Happy’, Year 4 explored a range of mental health issues and took part in discussion around different ideas raised.
Working in small groups in the nature area, children created outdoor performances around the theme of mental health.
Maths
Learning around number, place value and addition & subtraction have been covered so far this term.
Year 4 created a large-scale outdoor human number line to actively learn how numbers are rounded to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000.
English
Linked to study about Ancient Greece, Year 4 have enjoyed producing their own version of the Greek myth ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’.
After enjoying the experience of a virtual plane trip to Sicily followed by the presentation of a ‘guided tour’ talk, we have started work on creating a Holiday Brochure for the island.
Outdoor Learning
Year 4 have enjoyed making use of the school nature area this autumn, and during Friday afternoon Challenge Time have created ‘woodland creatures’ from natural materials, and collected strange and unusual objects with interesting back-stories on their ‘forager hunt’.
Ancient Greeks
Year 4 have explored life in Ancient Greece, including learning about the origins of modern democracy and the Olympics, gods and goddesses of the period, and the Battle of Marathon and the Trojan War.
Drama was used to create freeze-frames of the events in the Trojan War.
